It all started when Tracey Downey met Ken Racen, a handsome man with an engaging smile, a ready wit, and a perennial twinkle in his eye. Tracey was smitten, and she soon found herself completely immersed in their romance.
Both having an insatiable passion for good chocolate, Ken would tell Tracey stories about his Grandma Virginia’s home-made caramels, an extraordinarily delicious soft vanilla caramel that “melted in your mouth and didn’t stick to your teeth,” and how his grandfather would sit for hours hand dipping the caramels in rich dark chocolate. Seeing how Ken’s face would light up when he recounted the memories, Tracey knew she just had to make these candies.
As Grandma Virginia was no longer with them, Tracey set to work trying to find the recipe. Where could it be? No matter who she asked, the answer was always the same: Grandma Virginia never taught anyone her candy-making secrets, and the recipe hadn’t been written down. Oh, no! Now what?
Tracey was a woman on a mission, and nothing could stop her from making this treat for the man she loved. An amateur chocolatier, she headed to her kitchen to begin experimenting. In a testament to the power of love, Tracey managed to nail the recipe on her third attempt. Ken couldn’t believe it. Without a recipe, and working only from vague descriptions, Tracey had recreated Grandma Virginia’s heavenly vanilla caramel! Naturally it was only a matter of time before Ken got down on bended knee and proposed, and Tracey and Ken have been living happily ever after ever since.
Luckily for us, this story actually has two happy endings. Tracey began making caramels and chocolates for friends and family, and before long these gifts turned into orders and reorders. As the orders increased Tracey realized that her hobby was now a business. The rest, as they say, is history.
